Tragic Death of Prison Officer After Violent Altercation

An official of the Buenos Aires Penitentiary Service (SPB), Jorge Luis Castells, was severely injured and died hours later after a violent argument followed by blows in La Plata. Two individuals were detained for this incident.

According to police sources, the incident took place in the parking lot of the NINI Hypermarket located on Avenida 520 and 23. Castells, 40 years old, argued with a 53-year-old man and his 37-year-old son over a traffic maneuver. Initially, the SPB official was traveling in a van when the first confrontation occurred and then returned to the site on a motorcycle to continue the fight.

A witness stated that the dispute turned violent, with an exchange of blows, and during the confrontation Castells fell to the ground striking his head, resulting in serious injuries. Despite medical efforts at the San Roque Hospital in Gonnet, he died a few hours later.

The two involved, father and son, identified as Jonathan Marchezotti (37) and Fabio Omar Marchezotti (53), were detained in connection with the case and will face homicide charges. Prosecutor Virginia Bravo will carry out the corresponding investigations.

Investigators are reviewing security camera footage from the location and will request witness statements to clarify the facts.
